Periodontal Therapy Solutions
Good oral hygiene and regular dental care is key to preventing gum disease. The prevention and treatment of diseases affecting the periodontium has become increasingly important to patients, as patients are keeping their teeth longer and due to the increase in the middle and older age groups who traditionally need and seek periodontal treatment.
Additionally, the amount and quality of public awareness of periodontal disease has increased dramatically. Periodontal disease refers to all diseases of the periodontium (the supporting tissues of the teeth).
The etiology of periodontal disease in each patient needs to be identified because both prevention and treatment of dental disease depends on a thorough understanding of the factors that cause the tissue changes characteristic of periodontal disease.
Plaque deposits on teeth usually cause gum disease. Plaque is a colorless film produced by bacteria in your mouth that utilize the sugars and starches in your diet.
Common signs of gum disease include:
- Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing
- Red, swollen or tender gums
- Receding gums
- Calculus and tartar build up
- Loosening/mobility of teeth
- Shifting of teeth and changes in bite
- Bad breath or chronic bad taste
- Teeth sensitivity to hot and cold
- Pain to chewing
Our goal is to provide periodontal therapy aimed at arresting the progression of the disease and preserving the dentition in a state of health, comfort, and function with appropriate esthetics.
In addition it may be possible, under certain clinical circumstances, to regenerate the periodontal attachment apparatus. Then, we will show you how to take care of your teeth and gums at home. Also, we’ll make recommendations about how often you should be seen for routine dental cleanings in order to prevent the recurrence of periodontitis.
